The Pressure Bed

The Pressure Bed system is like having a sprinkler in the ground for your wastewater. It has pipes that are commonly 1 1/2" or 2" in diameter. Holes called Perforations are drilled in them at spacings that are consistant distance along the bottom of the pipe. The spacing that a designer can choose is 2.5', 3', 3.3', 4' or 5'. The hole can be 3/16", 7/32" or 1/4" in diameter. The bigger the holes, the more gallons per minute the pump must deliver. The more holes in a pipe requires a bigger pump also.

The MINIMUM seperation distance required is 36", the rock under the pipe required is 6" and the pipe must be covered with rock also.

These systems function well in a situation where the soil treatment area is up hill from where the tank(s) are located. They spread the wastewater over a larger area at one time then the trench type system.
